Author Support for Campaign

We have had some very welcome support from the Society of Authors, who helped us run a shout-out to authors via social media on Monday this week, and who are promoting bookshops to authors and encouraging supportive action from their members – see more here:

Authors who responded included Peter James, Mark Billingham, Sophie Hannah, Patrick Gale, Patrick Ness, Anne Sebba, Tracey Chevalier and many others.  We will be continuing our work with the Society of Authors in the lead up to the Christmas sales period, making sure that we have high profile spokespeople for indie bookshops at key points.

Press Coverage

In case you have not already seen these links, we have also had a pretty good range of press coverage, including (but not limited to!):

Today Programme, Saturday 30th June http://tinyurl.com/85ftj5d

Guardian, Saturday 30th June http://tinyurl.com/cbqvbu5

Twitter Trending, Saturday 30th June https://twitter.com/#!/IndieBound_UK

R4 You and Yours, Wednesday 4th July http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01k9q6s

BBC online, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18665092

Daily Telegraph http://tinyurl.com/7tfln6p

Independent http://tinyurl.com/d3fvah5

And even the Huffington Post! http://tinyurl.com/c33pddp

And we have had trade press coverage also:

The Bookseller: http://tinyurl.com/crnoh3k

BookBrunch: http://www.bookbrunch.co.uk/pid/article/childrens_bookshops_buck_high_street_trend_ba

We also have a range of local press coverage, with IBW featuring in local press from Brighton to Montrose and from Rhyl to Norwich – thanks to all of you who have contacted your own local press, given interviews, sent photos and generally flown the flag for independent bookshops.  There certainly seemed to be a groundswell of interest in the high street and independent traders, and our links with Independents Day yesterday, 4th July, seems also to have paid dividends.  Many bookshops seem to have linked up with other local indie retailers and created town initiatives for the 4th July celebration http://www.retailskillsacademy.co.uk/news/retail-independents-day If you were one of them, let us know and send in any links or photos you might have.

BA Christmas Books Catalogue

As you may have seen in the trade press, the BA is joining forces with Gardners to produce the IndieBound Christmas Catalogue and the deadline for bookshop orders has been extended to 13th July.  We are delighted that Gardners will be supporting the BA indie catalogue rather than producing their own, and you can see more detail on the BA site http://tinyurl.com/cb5qjz3

If you would like to order copies of the Catalogue, contact sharon.benton@booksellers.org.uk
